V-Day spotlight campaign

What is the V-Day Spotlight?

Every year V-Day chooses a different spotlight to put on a group of women who are experiencing violence.

Focussing the V-Day campaign on a particular issue means that the diversity of V-Days around the world can be united through lobbying for and bringing attention to the shared cause of ending violence against women.

This creates a goal to promote awareness and raises funds for aid groups who are addressing the theme the spotlight aims to uncover. This puts a media spotlight and brings the world’s attention to forms of violence which have been used against a particular group of women

How it started:

In 2001, a campaign called “Afghanistan is Everywhere” was launched by V-Day. Through this campaign, V-Day 2002 worldwide and college campaigns were asked to provide information about the issues facing Afghan women who had no civil or human rights under the Taliban during that time. The organizers were also encouraged to donate a percentage of their proceeds to Afghan women. Because this campaign was so successful, it has evolved into the annual V-Day Spotlight.
