Each local V-Day production generates funds for organisations that work to end violence against women. These funds are donated to organisations in the city, town or village of the V-Day producer, helping support the local services that work with survivors of abuse and that develop preventative campaigns and projects.
In addition to this, V-Day receives regular donations from the commercial production of The Vagina Monologues. These funds are distributed among 9 national charities:
Forward
Greater London Domestic Violence Project
International Planned Parenthood Federation
Newham Asian Women's Project
Refuge
Southall Black Sisters
South Essex Rape and Crisis Centre
Tender
Womansaid Federation of England
At the international level, V-Day ensures that funding flows towards some of the most pressing injustices in the lives of women. This is achieved through the V-Day Spotlight [link], a campaign that highlights one theme of gender violence in the world each year. In practice, the Spotlight campaign invites each local V-Day organiser to donate 10% of their proceeds to the year's chosen issue. Past Spotlight themes have been ‘Native American and First Nations Women' and ‘Women in Iraq'.
